Leonard S. McDonald, 88, of Hahira, died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Memorial Hospital of Adel. He was born in Lowndes County on December 15, 1920 to the late John Perry and Rosa Lee Alcorn McDonald. Mr. McDonald was a retired farmer and was retired from Langdale Lumber. He was a World War II Navy veteran having served from 1941 – 1945 and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Fielding McDonald, two sons and one daughter in law, Leon McDonald, Robert and Becky McDonald, three daughters and three sons in law, Carol and Darryl Callahan, Mary and Jim Hurd, Kay and Gene Grey, two sisters, Doris Cowart all of Hahira and Ruby Daughdrill of Valdosta, eight grandchildren, Kimberly Hogan (David), Johnny Duggan (Ragan), Jennifer Holt, Michele McDonald, Chuck McDonald, Leslie Lyons (Shannon), Shawn McDonald (Dee) and Kyle McDonald and seven great grandchildren. Mr. McDonald is preceded in death by one son, Johnny McDonald, his parents, J. P. and Rosa McDonald, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at two p. m. at the Martin McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with Reverend W. Carl Howard and Reverend Brinson Barker officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
