Leonard Bearman

May 9, 1930 — December 27, 2006

Leonard “Chuck” Bearman, 76, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born, May 9, 1930 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Leonard Henry Bearman and Myrtle Hanis Bearman. He graduated from Tri-State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Leonard served in the United States Army from 1952 – 1954 in Salzburg Austria. Later, he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in Italy and Washington DC. Upon retiring from the United States Government after 35 years of service, he began his intense participation in the management of many Scottish organizations and helped interested people locate their Scottish roots. This interest took he and his wife, Alta (of 52 years) to Scotland many times. Because of his love for flying, Leonard earned his pilots license and flew his Cessna on many trips with Alta. During this time, they became members of the Florida Coast Guard Auxiliary, assisting in search and rescue and drug interdiction. Additional hobbies included golfing and bowling where he won numerous awards. He was a Master Mason in Italian Chapters. On a more personal note, Leonard frequently took special interest in younger people’s hopes and ambitions, always listening with a willing ear, and often making a positive impact in their lives. Leonard lived a very full and interesting life accompanied with remarkable achievements having traveled the world and having made so many great friendships. He and his wonderful sense of humor will be very much missed.

Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Alta Helen MacIntosh Bearman formerly of Henryetta, OK and one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Bearman and John Glesby of Park City, UT.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2007 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Ron Hatchett officiating. Reception to follow at the Langdale Place.
