Leona Strickland Hudson, of Valdosta, died at South Georgia Medical Center on Thursday, March 6, 2008. Mrs. Hudson was born May 2, 1920 at her home at 1006 N. Patterson Street, Valdosta, Georgia. She was the daughter of William Roberts Strickland and Rosa Hill Strickland. Her first seven grades of school were at the "Training School" of Georgia State Women's College. She then graduated from Washington-Wilkes High School in 1937. She attended college in Valdosta for two years and worked at C.C. Varnadoe & Company for seven years. On December 28, 1945, she married Lt. Dugald Walker Hudson of Greenville, South Carolina. During his Army career they moved fourteen times. Three and ½ years were spent in Germany and while there, she traveled to many foreign countries. In 1958, the Hudsons moved to Atlanta where they lived for 48 years. For 15 years, Mrs. Hudson was employed at Citizens & Southern National Bank. She moved back to Valdosta in November, 2006 after the death of her husband in 2005. She was a member of the Lowndes County Historical Society, the Valdosta State University Alumni Association, Turner Center for the Arts and Westminster Presbyterian Church. There are no immediate survivors. A graveside memorial service will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery on Monday, March 10 at 2:00 P.M. The Reverend Peter Ingeman, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Valdosta, will officiate. Mrs. Hudson requested that no flowers or memorials be given.
