Leon Roberson

Leon Lavon "PETE" Roberson born to Oliver Jackson Roberson and Adrian NeSmith Roberson on September 26, 1934 passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Adrian Roberson, his brothers: Edgar O Roberson (Louise/and Ruth), Richard Melvin Roberson (Margaret), Oliver J. Roberson, Jr. (Sue), Clyde J. Roberson (Jeanette), and his sister, Martha Edna Morrow (George). He is survived by his wife Wilma Ellenberg Roberson and children, Leon L. Roberson, Jr. (Cindy), Gregory Alan Roberson (Lisa), and Jason Scott Roberson (Shanna) and his grandchildren, Sarah Roberson, Summer Ashlee Roberson, Logan Scott Roberson, Katie Clark, Matthew Pedron; and his great grandchild, Clay Chaney. He is also survived by his brothers, Donald Roberson (Lawanna), Fred Roberson (Donna), Cecil Roberson (Susan) and his sister Betty L. Anderson and many nephews and nieces.

Pete attended Valdosta City Schools graduating from Valdosta High School. He was a US ARMY Veteran, serving in Germany in the engineering battalion. After his tour of duty, he returned to Valdosta and worked for the Reid Electric Company, which he later purchased. He operated Reid Electric until he retired in 2004. Pete played church and city-league softball for many years. He loved to pitch. He was an avid fan of the Florida State Seminoles and the Atlanta Braves.

Pete was a charter member and assisted the building of the Westend Presbyterian Church of Valdosta which was built after World War II. While there, he served on the deacon board for many years.

Pete was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to so many. He will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3-5pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to "Meals on Wheels" of the First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 1094, Valdosta, GA, 31603, or Hospice of South Georgia, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602.
