Leon L. Dowling

Leon L. Dowling, 96, of Valdosta, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the home of his grandson in Waycross.

He was born August 17, 1919 in Valdosta, a son of the late John Richard and Beulah Sanders Dowling. Mr. Dowling honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 76th Infantry Division and was a Purple Heart recipient. For many years he owned and operated Dowling Body Shop.

He is survived by two grandsons, Tony Walker and wife Pat of Waycross, and Kevin Dowling and wife Caroline; nine great-grandchildren, including David and Heather Archer, Natalie and Chris Yarbrough, Anthony and Jennifer Walker, and Krystal Walker, all of Waycross, Shane and Stephanie Joiner, Brandon Joiner, and Cheyenne Joiner, all of Valdosta; eight great-great-grandchildren; his son-in-law, Ralph Warren of Lake Park; a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Lois Dowling of Deland, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Pearl Moore Dowling; daughter, Martha Elaine Warren; son, Larry Dowling; granddaughter, Tammy Joiner; three sisters and two brothers.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Dowling will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Marty Chase officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Joe Howell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
