Leon Gary Wright

Leon Gary Wright, 85, of Hahira passed away Monday, May 10, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Lake City, Michigan in January 1936 to the late William Melvin Wright and Flora Mae (Farmer) Wright. Mr. Wright was employed in management at Win Schulers Foods in Michigan, then as General Manager with Aircoa in hotel management in various locations across the U.S. He served in the United States Navy from November 7, 1956 to August 23, 1959 aboard the USS Yorktown, CVA-10. Mr. Wright was a member and usher at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church and volunteered at the St. Francis Center as well as the VA. He was a handyman and could fix anything. He will be remembered for his kindness, infectious joy, story-telling, and patriotism.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, Ann Marie (Ciokajlo) Wright of Hahira, three sons and daughters in law, Greg Wright of Michigan, Brian and Debbie Wright of Hudsonville, Michigan and Terry and Karen Wright of Noblesville, Indiana, one daughter and son in law, Karen and Joe Wright of Battle Creek, Michigan, grandchildren; Jon Wright, Jason Wright, Gregory Wright, Anna Nevins, Jake Wright, Sam James, Emily James, Bryce Wright, Zachary Wright, Kaitlyn O’Neal and Sarah Gershey and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Brian LaBurt officiated. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at www.mclanecares.com.
