Leon Franklin Ward

December 21, 1922 — April 25, 2005

Leon Franklin Ward, 82, of Valdosta, passed away at his home on Monday, April 25, 2005 from a long illness resulting from complications of a congenital heart defect and congestive heart failure. Born in Konawa, Oklahoma, on December 21, 1922, Mr. Ward was the son of the late James Edward and Etta Maebell Ward. He had served in the Navy during WWII and continued his military career in the Army Air Corps and the Air Force., retiring in 1963 as SMSGT. Mr. Ward was associated with Owens Illinois in the plastics division. He was a member of The Retired Enlisted Association and Corinth Baptist Church. Mr. Ward will be missed greatly by those who knew him.

Survivors are his daughter and son in law, Darlene and Don Martin of Madison, Florida; a son, Scott V. Ward of Lake Park; grandchildren, Jason Martin of Orlando, Florida, Kimberly Hasty of Orlando, Florida, Scott A. Ward of Waycross; brothers and sister in law, J.C. and Marie Ward of Sayre, Oklahoma, Harvey Ward of Willows, California, Frank Ward of Maxwell, California; sisters, Jewel Hale of Pioneer, California, Mickey Armstrong, Eric, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at the Corinth Baptist Church on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Henry Cannington, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to service time. Carson McLane Funeral is serving the family of Mr. Ward.
