Lemuel N. John III, Lt. Col. USAF, RET., 85, of Valdosta died at Langdale Hospice House on Monday, April 14, 2014. Born on November 11, 1928 in Morgantown, West Virginia he was the son of the late Marie Katherine O'Malley and L.N. John, Jr. Lem was a graduate of West Virginia University where he majored in Physical Education and joined Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in July 1955. Lem retired as Lt. Colonel after 28 years of service with the Air Force.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a LAMP volunteer for many years. An avid sports fan, he especially loved the "Wildcats" and was a member of The Valdosta Touchdown Club.
Survivors are his wife, Nell McElroy John of Valdosta, a daughter, Marta Sue John of Chandler, Arizona and two sons, David Alan John and Paul Steven John both of Tucson, Arizona.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the graveside at Oak Hill Cemetery, Quitman, Georgia. Reverend Jerry Long will officiate.
