Leland Stephenson, 79, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Valdosta, on January 15, 1937, he was the son of the late Alvin Lee and Eva Harris Stephenson. A graduate of Valdosta High School, he was an All-State Basketball player. He was an avid outdoorsman and expert fresh and salt water fisherman. In the early 70's Leland started Stephenson's Marine and continued to work in boat sales and mechanics virtually all of his life. He was a tremendously talented "handyman", who could fix or build most anything. He always had a joke or prank to share with family and friends. Mr. Stephenson was Methodist by faith.
Survivors are his wife, Gigi O'Connor Stephenson; daughter, Libbi Stephenson Malone, son and daughter in law, William and Linda Stephenson, stepson and step daughter in law, J.G. and Heidi O'Connor all of Valdosta; grandchildren, Courtney Malone of Atlanta, Olivia O'Connor of Valdosta; brothers and sisters in law, Vernon D. and Marion Stephenson, Hugh and Betty Stephenson of Valdosta; sister, Joyce Johnson of Thomasville; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Hospice of South Georgia, to Langdale Hospice House and Janette Stephenson for all their loving care during Leland's illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Stephenson will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Reverend Robbie Harrington and Mr. Don Lokey will officiate.
