Leland Jackson "Jack" Kent, Jr.

Leland Jackson “Jack” Kent, Jr., 78, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Lanier County, Georgia on July 28, 1941 Jack was the son of the late Leland J. Kent, Sr. and Bessie Alene Lancaster Kent. He was Valedictorian of the Lanier County High School Class of 1959. Jack was one of the last Accountants in the country to receive his CPA license before an accounting degree was required by law. He owned and operated his own CPA Firm for many years. He was particularly pleased and proud that Katherine Pipkin honored him with the job of managing her charitable trust which he oversaw successfully, carrying out all her wishes. He served as Finance Director for the Valdosta BOE for 30 years. Jack enjoyed his life’s work but most of all he loved his wife, his family and a good day of fishing.
Survivors are his wife, Wanda Kent of Valdosta; son and daughter in law, Leland Jackson (Trae) Kent, III and Devoney of Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Mandy Rowe and Harry of St. Augustine, Florida; sister, Barbara Barker of Valdosta, brothers and sister in law, Jim Kent and Susan of Cecil, Bobby Kent of Athens; eight grandchildren, April (Justin) Jolly, Kaitlynn (Jay) Culpepper, Jackson (Jordan) Passmore, Emily (Justin) Alexander, Kirstyn Gordon, Jacklyn Kent, Leland Jackson (Coby) Kent IV, and Kathryn Grace Kent; five great grandchildren, Braylon Worley, Rigby Culpepper, Kade Culpepper, Lydia Musgrove and BJ Musgrove. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Mary Louise Kent and Loni Bell Gilbert.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Gary Woods will officiate. Burial will follow at Empire Cemetery.
