Leila Rachel Sharpe Gaston

Leila Rachel Sharpe Gaston, 105, of Jasper, Florida and formerly of Lowndes County died Monday, February 14, 2011 at Suwannee Valley Nursing Home in Jasper, Florida. She was born in Hahira on January 12, 1906 to the late John W. and Edith Elizabeth Roundtree Sharpe. Mrs. Gaston was a member of the Francis Lake Baptist Church and was retired as a seamstress for Snow's Laundry.

She is survived by one son and daughter in law, Lloyd T. and Clytee Parker of Olive Branch, MS., two daughters and a son in law, Doris and Steve Tuten of Greenville, Fla., Dorothy Jean (Jeanie) Barnes of Valdosta, 9-grandchildren, 17-great grandchildren and 16-great great grandchildren, one sister in law, Willie Mae Sharpe Register of Hahira. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walt D. (W.D.) Gaston, a son in law, Duck Barnes, a grandson, Steve Barnes and a brother, Henry Mack Sharpe.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Thursday, February 17, 2011 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with Rev. Eldridge Lyons and Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
