Leighton Smith Sadler, 71, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at South Georgia Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. Born in Brooks County on April 19, 1946, he was a son of the late George W. and Emma Holland Sadler. Mr. Sadler was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1966 -1968 during the Tet Offensive with the 93rd Combat Engineering Battalion which was attached to the 101st Airbourne and the 109th Infantry Battalion. After his Army service, he began work with the City of Valdosta Fire Department, and retired as Assistant Chief after 32 years. Mr. Sadler was a faithful member of Lakeland Church of Christ. With a servant's heart, he found joy in serving the Lord and his fellow man. He loved time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and took pleasure in tending his cows on his farm.
Survivors are his wife, Debbie Sellers Sadler of Valdosta; daughters, Diane (Jason) Williams of Katy, Texas, Angela Kelly of Valdosta; Tammie Perry of Quitman; sons, Michael Todd Sadler, Leighton Smith (Belinda) Sadler, Jr. of Valdosta; eighteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Williams of Valdosta, brother, Russell (Pat) Sadler of Adel; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a number of brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Mr. David Abbott will officiate. Burial will follow at Redland Baptist Church Cemetery.
