Lee Wilburn Redish, Sr., 80, of Valdosta passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Valdosta on September 20, 1931 to the late Ralph and Lenora Fender Redish. Mr. Redish was vice president of Peoples Financial Coporation where he began his career on October 1, 1959 and continued to this date. He also served in the United States Air Force from December 28, 1950 until October 8, 1954 where he was honorably discharged after serving his country as S/Sgt, Senior Airborne Radar Operator. Following this, he served as a Sergeant with the Valdosta Police Department.
Mr. Redish was a dedicated father, loving husband and devout Christian. He was a member of the Northside Baptist Church where he served as Treasurer and Chairman of the Deacons. He loved spending time with his family, serving the Lord at his Church, his profession and golf. He was known by his grandchildren as Pop, and by his children as the greatest man they have ever known.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Lou Wright Redish of Valdosta, two daughters and sons in law, Robin and Barry Vaughn of Dothan, Alabama, Kristin and Mike Pope of Valdosta, one son, Lee W. Redish, Jr. of Tifton, four grandchildren, Lt. Brooks and Cortney Pope of Fairbanks, AK., Alden Pope of St. Augustine, Fl., Haley and Kyle Hancock of Madison, MS. and Katlyn Register of Dothan, AL., two sisters and brothers in law, Dorothy and Wade DeLoach, Elizabeth and Richard Salter all of Valdosta, one brother and sister in law, Edgar Redish of Lake City, Fl., one sister in law, Ann Blake of Valdosta, numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Hall and Rev. Douglas M. Reddick officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. Bob Willis officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
