Lawton Lavern Gaskins, 56, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2007 after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on October 5, 1950 in Nashville, Georgia to Lawton H. and Audrey Gray Gaskins. He retired from the Valdosta Police Department after 16 years of service as an officer. He was a member of Rosedale Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Gaskins; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen & David Teems, Michelle & Timmy Chance, Tamatha & Terry Hines; ten grandchildren, Ashley Evans, April Jones, Stan Evans, Josh Teems, Jordyn Teems, Josie Chance, Scott Chance, Zane Knighton, Kyleigh Knighton, Taylor Rhiannon Hines, his mother Audrey Gaskins, all of Valdosta. He is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat & Glenn Joiner of Lakeland, Linda & Wesley Barrentine of Echols county; one brother, Bobby Gaskins of Valdosta; special friend & brother-in-law, Robert J. Mcleod also of Valdosta and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Lawton H. Gaskins.
Services will be held Thursday, July 26 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Maxie Williams and Pastor Dennis Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Carson McLane Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Rosedale Church of God Building Fund or Hospice of South Georgia.
