Lawrence Zipperer, Jr.

Lawrence Zipperer, Jr., 61, of Valdosta passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at home with family and friends. Larry was born in Valdosta on January 16, 1948 and was the son of Allie Inez Butler Zipperer and the late Lawrence Edward Zipperer, Sr. of Valdosta. He graduated from Lowndes High School in 1966 and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with Associate Degrees in Agriculture in 1969, and Agricultural Equipment Technology in 1970. After college he worked at Farmer's Tractor for several years. Larry has been a farmer all of his life. From his earliest days as he helped milk the cows and feed the chickens, then later as he planted row crops such as corn and soybeans and more recently he was engaged in raising livestock such as hogs and cows. Larry loved music and singing and helping others, primarily the elderly. During high school and college he was active in the FFA, was a former member of the Lowndes County Planning Commission and served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Farm Bureau. Larry was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Tami Greene Zipperer of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Amy Inman of Kennesaw; daughters and their boyfriends, Selena Smith and Travis Phinney, Jessica Zipperer and Timothy Windham, Lauren Zipperer and Jason Turner, all of Valdosta; grandchildren, Emily Grace, Hannah Rachelle, and Kyleigh Elizabeth Smith, all of Valdosta, Ethan Michael and Hayden Bryce Inman of Kennesaw; sister and brother-in-law, Freida and Johnny Rutland of Tifton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sidney and Kathy Zipperer of Moultrie, Robert and Patsy Zipperer, Gilbert and Susan Zipperer, all of Valdosta; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Ron E. Lynch of Valdosta, Judy and Wayne Ross of North Carolina, Cindy and Joe Bramlett of Valdosta; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Dawn Greene; numerous nieces and nephews. Larry is also survived by his dear friends, Hulon Fletcher, Tommy Cothron, John Baker, Joe, Gary, and Roger Touchton, Trey Warnock and Benji Baldree.

Services for Larry will be held at 4 P.M. Thursday, September 17, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 4514 Mt.
