LAWRENCE EDWARD ZIPPERER, SR., 93, of Valdosta died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at his home. He was born in Lowndes County on December 11, 1914 to the late Charles Edward and Lucy Roberts Zipperer and was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. Mr. Zipperer was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. He was associated with A. S. Pendleton Company for many years and was a farmer. Mr. Zipperer enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Inez Butler Zipperer of Valdosta, one daughter and son in law, Freida and Johnny Rutland of Tifton, four sons and daughters in law, Larry and Tami Zipperer of Valdosta, Sidney and Kathy Zipperer of Moultrie, Robert and Patsy Zipperer, Gilbert and Susan Zipperer all of Valdosta, 20-grandchildren, 18-great grandchildren, one sister, Delphia Peace of Valdosta, two brothers and three sisters in law, Stanley and Hilda Zipperer, Foster and Hazel Zipperer all of Valdosta, Marjorie Zipperer of Colquitt, GA. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Viva Jones, Blanche Kelly, Floride Miller and Aleph Breland and two brothers, Aubrey Zipperer and Leonard Zipperer. He was also survived by a special friend and caregiver, Doris Aiken.
Funeral services will be held at 4pm, Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Nathan Lehman, Rev. Sam Vernon and Dr. John McGowan officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7-9pm at the funeral home.
