LaVerne Wayne Lane, 65, of Valdosta, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on November 30, 1942 in Eau Claire, WI, he was the son of States Henry and Violet McNair Lane. He was a retired Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of both the VFW 1777 and the Military Order of the Cooties in Waycross and a member of the Statenville Masonic Lodge. Mr. Lane was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Lane of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Ann Lane and Josef Fortier of Minneapolis, MN, Lori and John Bedene of Valdosta, and Karen Marie Lane of Rice Lake, WI; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Regina Lane of Portland, OR; grandsons, Francis Wasiskowski III of Ft. Hood, TX, John Bedene, Jr. of Valdosta; granddaughter, Meagan Marie Fortier of Minneapolis, MN; two great grandsons. Mr. Lane is also survived by his sister, Donna Loew of Eau Claire, WI; brother, Steven Lane of Vaccaville, CA and his faithful companion, Tippi, too.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Messiah Lutheran Church with Reverend Richard Pieplow officiating. Burial will take place later in the week in the Andersonville National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church building fund.
