LaVerne Little Golden, 86, of Valdosta, died on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Americus to the late Manson & Emma Mathis Little, she was formerly of Albany and Savannah. Growing up in Albany, she was a 1945 graduate of Albany High School. She met and then married her late husband Edgar Francis "Frank" Golden in 1950. The Goldens lived in several towns in South Georgia, following Mr. Golden as he worked for Georgia Public Health, before settling in Savannah (Isle of Hope) where they lived for 10 years. In 1965, the family moved to Valdosta and lived there for 15 years. In 1980, Mrs. Golden and her husband moved back to Albany. While in Albany, she was active with Easter Seals and she was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. In 2006, she and her husband moved back to Valdosta and were members at First Presbyterian Church. Throughout the years, Mrs. Golden enjoyed spending time with their friends in the Knife and Fork Supper Club which began during their days on Isle of Hope. Also while in Valdosta, she worked for 10 years as secretary to the Public Relations Director at Valdosta State University.
Survivors include her two sons and daughters in law, Alan & Dale Golden of Braselton, and Tim & Ellen Golden of Valdosta; three grandchildren and their spouses, Reid & Stacy Golden of Bishop, Ben & Jackie Golden of Brookhaven, and Seth Golden of Valdosta; two great grandchildren, Cale & Maelyn Golden both of Bishop; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
A funeral service for Mrs. Golden will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Hale Bishop will officiate. The graveside committal will be held at 2 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson. Rev. Biff Coker will officiate. The family will receive friends at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta on Sunday afternoon from 4 until 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, P.O. Box 1727, Valdosta, GA 31603, or the Valdosta State University Foundation, 1500 N. Patterson St., Valdosta, GA 31698.
