Laura Jean Bartow

May 3, 1951 — February 23, 2012

Laura Jean Bartow, 60, of Hahira died Thursday, February 23, 2012 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy battle with heart disease. She was born on May 3, 1951 in Granite City, Illinois and had lived in this area for the past thirty years. Mrs. Bartow was an active member of Calvary Temple Church. She loved sharing Jesus with everyone she met and always invited everyone she encountered to go to church with her. She loved helping serve and ministering to young and old by dressing up as "Jingles" the clown.

She loved and cherished her family. Mrs. Bartow was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Donald E. Bartow of Hahira for over 41 years. She was the first friend and biggest cheerleader to her daughter and son in law, Beth and Tim Bryant of Crestview, Florida and her son and daughter in law, Donny and Amy Bartow of Hahira She was the "best Grandma ever" to Timmy Bryant, Trevor Bryant, Christian Bartow and Andrew Bartow who often referred to her as "Jean Jean the butter bean" Her brothers and sisters were not only her family, but also her close friends- Kathy (Marty) Hart of St. Louis, MO., Ray (Debbie) Stuart of Granite City, IL., Vicky Walton of Granite City, IL., Travis Collins of Winter Springs, Fla. and Ken Collins of Ocala, Fla., Her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins were near and dear to her heart. She was a "mother" to many. Mrs. Bartow is preceded in death by her parents, Betty Jo and Lynn Collins.

She loved to make others laugh and always joking and finding humor in every situation. If she couldn't make you laugh, she made you eat. She was an excellent cook-best known for her chicken and dumplings. Mrs. Bartow loved to fish, spend time with family and friends, play poker and help others. She was a good friend to those around her and touched many many lives simply by loving them with open arms.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Monday, February 27, 2012 at the Calvary Temple Church, 4735 Bemiss Road, Valdosta, GA 31605. Ministers Ann Smith and Tim Potter will officiate.
