LAMAR TUMLIN, 86, of Lake Park died Friday, November 21, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. He was born on October 6, 1922 in Doerun to the late John and Minda Tucker Tumlin and had lived in this area for thirty five years. He left home and spent thirty years serving in the United States Air Force including World War II spending the last few months as a prisoner of war. After serving in Korea and returning stateside he met and married Mary Ellen Freeman. He and his wife enjoyed several years of military life and travel including Okinawa and Japan and returned to the states and had two sons whom they raised primarily in Valdosta. After retiring again from fourteen years with the school system he and his family moved to Enoch Lake in Lake Park.
Survivors include his sons, Michael Tumlin and Keith Tumlin both of Valdosta, two brothers, Lester Tumlin of Augusta and Jack Tumlin of Doerun. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Freeman Tumlin, five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
