L. Inman Grimsley, Jr. 66, of Valdosta died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida after a short illness. He was born November 9, 1942 in Albany to the late Loran, Sr. and Aline Whittington Grimsley and had lived in Valdosta for many years. Mr. Grimsley was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church. He retired from Valdosta State University as Director of Human Resources after thirty six years of service. Mr. Grimsley graduated from Emory University at Oxford, attended Emory University and was also a graduate of Valdosta State University. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Valdosta State University. He loved woodworking and being with his friends.
Survivors include his wife, Jeneane Lovett Grimsley of Valdosta, a daughter and son in law, Kimberly Alden and W. Calvin Smith of Roanoke, VA., two grandchildren, Josh Smith and Jackson Smith both of Roanoke, VA., sister, Carol Grimsley Bentley of Knoxville, TN., sister in law and brother in law, Linda L. and Donald Parton of Albany, a niece, Chandle Bentley Turbyville, of Knoxville, TN., three nephews, Garrett Bentley of Marietta, GA., Judge Rick Waters of Camilla and Dr. Matthew Waters of Rome, GA., and an aunt, Lois Grimsley Ellis of Cleveland, TN. He was preceded in death by a son, Trey Grimsley, III.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church with Dr. Richard Hart and Rev. William Smith officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
