L. Freeman Rogers, 84 lifetime resident of Valdosta, died on Monday, November 07, 2005 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born on January 6, 1921 in Valdosta, he was the son of the late Luther James and Mamie Smith Rogers and the widower of Eunice Idelle Giddens Rogers, his wife of 36 years. He was a retired paint contractor and a veteran of the United States Marines having served during World War II. Mr. Rogers was an avid golfer and bowler. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patsy McLeod, Christina and Kenneth Baird and Beth and Buddy Studstill all of Valdosta; six grandchildren, Mark McLeod of Milledgeville, Meg McLeod Booth and her husband Jeff, Jonathan Baird, Aaron Baird, Devin Studstill and Leslie Studstill all of Valdosta; one great granddaughter, Hannah Booth; one sister, Alwilda DeCesare of Valdosta;and one brother, T. D. Rogers of Quitman. He was also preceded in death by brothers, James L. “Doc” Rogers, Henry Stanley Rogers and a son-in-law, Eddie McLeod.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia.
