Kenneth Wright Shanklin, 83, of Valdosta died Tuesday, October 13, 2013 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 25, 1930 in Elkton, Kentucky to the late Linsey and Olen Nickerson Shanklin and had lived in Valdosta for eight years. Mr. Shanklin was a member of Pleasant Way Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Miller Shanklin of Valdosta, his daughter, Bonnie Sue Shanklin of Valdosta, his son, David Shanklin of Salt Lake City, Utah, his daughter, Judy Ann Oliver of Dallas, TX., five grandchildren, five sisters, Nadine Ellis, Martha Bell Williams, Mary Ann Roberts, Sue Duckett and Carolyn Wyatt, three brothers, Gene Shanklin, Joe Shanklin and Jesse Shanklin.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Watson officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
