Kenneth M. Carter, 74, of Valdosta died Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL after a lengthy illness. He was born on February 1, 1932 in Hamburg, Arkansas to the late Jeff and Lelia Burchell Carter. He had lived in Valdosta since 1970 and retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years of dedicated service and then from South Georgia Medical Center after 15 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, birdwatching and most of all, woodworking and was a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Brigitte Carter of Valdosta, his son, John Carter and wife, Sharon of Thomasville, two daughters, Patricia Carter Marchal and husband, Kelly of Alexandria, Alabama and Sabine Carter of Valdosta and fiancé, Doug Gross, his grandchildren, Zane, Bailey, Chelsea, Lauren, Max and Gabriel, his great grandchildren, Ryan and Kaitlin and two favorite TV buddies, cats, Toby (Fat Sack) and Smokey (Slick Willie) and is also survived by two brothers, Raymond Carter and Lawrence Carter of Crossett, Arkansas, two sisters, Barbara Feagin of Columbia, SC and Donnie Craig of Bakersfield, California and several nieces and nephews. His parents and four siblings precede him in death.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 26, 2006 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from one until two p. m. at the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at mclanefuneralservices.com. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
