Kenneth Lee Folsom, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022.
Kenneth Lee Folsom’s parents, Robert and Margueritha, welcomed a blessing in the form of a healthy boy on April 22, 1963. They bragged to friends and family that he was an easygoing baby and a happy child, constantly finding ways to entertain himself with the other neighborhood kids until the streetlights came on. Much to his mom’s chagrin, those past times often led to dirty hands and feet and jars of tadpoles in the house. Ken attended Valdosta High School and Valdosta State University, where he studied history. He was always ready and eager to share a detailed story of an American battle or regale family and friends with little-known facts about a historical figure.
While Ken excelled at many jobs, his favorite title was Papa Ken to his beloved grandchildren, including Ed (Heather) Dailey’s daughters, Kaelyn and Kynzie, of Valdosta, and Crystal (Billy) Dailey Boyce’s children Leigha, Olivia and Blake, of Belleview, Florida. He cherished every minute with his family and was looking forward to more time with all the grandkids when a recent move brought Crystal, her husband and children a few hours closer.
Ken was a devout man of faith and a member of Morningside Baptist Church of Valdosta, where he always sought ways to serve and minister to others. Many in the congregation describe him as someone who would drop everything to help out where needed and then arrive thirty minutes early to do so. Ken treasured the Biblical teachings of Dr. Wayne Robertson and enjoyed fellowship with many beloved friends who became an extended family.
When not volunteering in church, Ken loved days of fishing with Ed, occasional trips to the beach and quiet cups (or pots) of coffee early in the morning. He was known for having a friendly smile, an abundance of jokes, and never a negative word about anyone. In addition to those loved ones mentioned, Ken’s sudden passing leaves behind too many to name who will miss him dearly, including his sister Robin, a special cousin Milly, a longtime friend and sister-in-Christ Stephanie, and his church family. He would assure them all this separation is only temporary for those who believe in Jesus and ask them to celebrate his homegoing as he rejoices in heaven.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Morningside Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Robertson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11am. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Ken’s family asks that contributions be made to Morningside Baptist Church of Valdosta. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
