Kenneth E. Price, Sr., 87 of Dixie, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Fellowship Home in Brooks County.
Born in Emanuel County, Georgia on September 18, 1932, he was the son of Louvesta Henry and Elder Willie Eugene Price. When Louvesta died 2 years later, Elder Price married Louvesta’s cousin, Endia Perkins and Endia lovingly raised Kenneth and his baby sister, Dolly as her own. The Price family grew with the birth of two additional sons and two daughters. Always the big
brother, Kenneth had a fun nickname for each of his siblings. Growing up in Brooks County, Kenneth attended and graduated from Dixie High School where his father taught. He married his high school sweetheart, Norma Jean Taylor, before joining the Air Force. The Air Force took Kenneth to Saudi Arabia, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas. After his military discharge Kenneth began working as an accountant which resulted in a lifetime career in partnership with Harley Mitchell Hardware in Quitman.
Kenneth loved to collect and tinker with old radios and cars, especially Ford Mustangs. He was a loving father, teaching his children good manners, respect, and the value of a good work ethic. On Sunday mornings he could be found with one or more of his children in the Primitive Baptist Church listening to his father preach. He enjoyed motorized toys such as go carts and minibikes, he taught his girls to drive a stick shift, and shared his love of basketball with family hoop shooting. An avid baseball fan, he followed the Yankees and the Braves faithfully, and and supported his sons and grandsons in their baseball endeavors. Kenneth served on the board of the Brooks County Hospital for several years. After his retirement, he enjoyed maintaining the old Dixie School and promoting it as a community gathering place. A true patriot, Kenneth bled red, white and blue.
Kenneth is survived by a son, Kenneth E., Jr. “Bubba” (Deborah) Price, of Dixie, son, Mitchell Price of Sweden, two daughters, Denise (Don) Munro of Francis Lake, Dian (Jeff) Fulp of Valdosta, sister, Dolly (Albert) Herndon of Valdosta, brother, W. Dewey Price of Jacksonville, Florida, nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth David Price, a daughter, Debbie Price North, sisters, Mary Francis Price, Linda Price Oliveto and a brother, George Billy Price.
Private family graveside services were held at Dixie Cemetery on Saturday, April 11, 2020. Reverend Steve Shierling officiated. Kenneth was interred next to his second wife, Annette Simpson.
