Kay Lassiter Meeks

September 25, 1925 — July 24, 2022

Kay Lassiter Meeks, 96, of Valdosta died Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Adel, GA on September 25, 1925 to the late Ed Lassiter and Rossie Thornton Lassiter. Mrs. Meeks was an orthopedic shoe fitter with Patterson Jones Shoes. She was a member of Westview United Methodist Church and Fellowship Home Church. Mrs. Meeks was a Sparks and Adel “Spardel” Hornet, a gifted basketball player and member of the team that won the 1941 state championship. She was a member of the Cook County Sports Hall of Fame and was recognized on September 30, 2017. She met and married Buddy Meeks in 1947 and was married for 65 years prior to his death in 2012. She worked many years at Patterson Jones Shoes and Freelanders Shoes helping fit shoes and also orthopedic shoes to help people walk better. Mrs. Meeks was a great cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She enjoyed fishing with family, loved flowers, was a wonderful mother and loved taking her children and grandchildren to sports activities.

Mrs. Meeks is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Kenny and Beth Meeks and Roger and Barbara Meeks all of Valdosta, grandchildren, Kenny, Jr. and Jessie Meeks of Naylor, Kyle and Courtney Meeks of Lake Park, Roger, Jr. and Kristen Meeks of Morven, Derry and Nikkie Meeks of Barney, step grandchildren, Terry and Christina Godwin of Brunswick, James Godwin of Pooler, Giles and Angel Godwin of Valdosta and numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Malgrum Denzel “Buddy” Meeks, sisters, Alma Davis, Jewel Blanton, Ruby Barfield and Mary Lou Wise and one brother Tally Lassiter.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at eleven a. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Lynwood Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from ten a. m. until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Langdale Hospice or Fellowship Home.
