KATY BELL HYDE

KATY BELL HYDE, 87, of Valdosta and affectionately known as “Gran Katy” died on Sunday, April 17, 2005 at a local nursing home. Mrs. Hyde was a native of Martin, TN who resided in Birmingham, Alabama from 1940-1997. Since that time, she has lived in Valdosta. She was a dedicated Christian and homemaker who loved her family, music and poetry. She was a member of 77th Street Church of Christ in Birmingham. Respected for numerous community events - Bible Teacher, PTO Mother Singers, and Wedding Chorus and sold Avon products for 30 years during which time she received many awards for outstanding sales.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Chambers of Atlanta and Pat Owens of Valdosta, three grandsons, Edward and John Owens of Valdosta and Matthew Lassiter of Atlanta. Mrs. Hyde was married to the late Morris F. Hyde for 40 years. She will be greatly missed by her family.

A visitation was held at Carson McLane Funeral Home on Sunday, April 17, 2005 from 7-9pm. A second visitation will be held Monday, April 18, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. CST at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Birmingham, Ala with graveside services to be held at 4pm CST at Jefferson Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Lyle T. Owens will officiate the service. Memorials may be made to the Freed-Hardeman University, 158 E. Main St., Henderson, TN 38340 for construction of the Fine Arts Building or to the Arthritis Foundation. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
