Katie B. Lewis, 72, of Adel, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Adel Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Lewis was born in Hazard, KY to the late Nathaniel & Polly Ann Campbell Wooton on April 26, 1937. Formerly of Hazard, KY, she has lived in Valdosta and Adel for the past 23 years. Mrs. Lewis attended Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta where she sang in the choir and Westside Baptist Church in Adel. She was a volunteer with the Head Start Program in Lowndes County and was a kindhearted, free spirited woman who was loving and generous with everyone she met. She loved her Jesus and Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker and a caretaker for her family and all those close to her.
Survivors include her daughter, Helen Campbell of Valdosta; two sons and a daughter in law, Joe & Debi Lewis and James Lewis, all of Tifton; four grandchildren, Miranda (Dustin) Goode, Aleshia Lewis and Matt Lewis, all of Tifton and Lance Lewis of Valdosta. Also surviving are a great granddaughter, Gracie Jo Goode of Tifton, and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe H. Lewis, a son Quenten Lewis, and a brother and two sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lewis will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home in Hazard, KY. Burial will follow in the Krypton Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 until 8 p.m.. Locally, flowers will not be accepted, but flowers may be sent to the funeral home in Kentucky or donations may be made in Mrs. Lewis�s name to your favorite charity.
