Kathy Failor, 68, of Valdosta, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the Langdale Hospice House after a long battle with cancer.
She was born Kathleen Mary Lantzy in Detroit, Michigan on March 16, 1946 to the late Albert Joseph Lantzy and Ruth Gratopp Lantzy. In 1966, Kathy married Dean F. Failor of Monroeville, Ohio and worked at The Ohio State University before embarking on a life as an Air Force wife and career civil servant. She retired from the civil service in 2006 after working as a budget analyst for the 347th Rescue Group, as well as a real estate specialist in Civil Engineering. Kathy also worked in Valdosta at one time for the J.N. Bray Company. She is remembered as a loving wife and mother, as well as a devoted friend who never hesitated to reach out to those who were in need. Kathy was a member of both Christ Episcopal Church and Christ the King Episcopal Church in Valdosta at various times and served in various capacities.
Kathy will be dearly missed by her family, friends and former co-workers. She is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. Dean F. Failor, USAF (Ret) of Valdosta; two sons, Dean F. Failor II (Wendy) of Savannah, Peter C. Failor of Valdosta; two grandchildren, Benjamin Dean and Katherine Meryem-Rae of Savannah; two sisters, Shirley Bolin (Mat) of Traverse City, Michigan, Arlene Murphy of Providence City, Texas; three brothers, Albert Lantzy (Beverly) of Warren, Michigan, Michael Lantzy (Diana) of Port Austin, Michigan, Dennis Lantzy (Pat) of Warren, Michigan; brother-in-law, Bruce Failor (Diane) of Southport, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Joel Christopher Failor.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Failor will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Christ Episcopal Church, with Rev. Dr. David Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church urn garden. A reception will follow in the church parish hall.
