Kathleen Peeples McGhin

Kathleen P. McGhin, 84, of Valdosta passed away on February 12, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. Mrs. McGhin was born on November 25, 1926 in Hamilton County, Florida to the late Leslie and Lillian Peeples. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church and the co-owner of Learning Tree Educational Resources, Inc. She graduated from Jasper High School and then attended Massey Business School in Jacksonville while working for Pillsbury Mills and the Federal Reserve Bank. On December 26, 1947 she married the late Cleon McGhin and they moved to Valdosta in 1957 where she worked as a bookkeeper for J. C. Parrish Finance. In 1969 the couple returned to Jasper where Mrs. McGhin served as legal secretary to Judge Arvel Drury. In 1979 they returned back to Valdosta to work with their son in establishing Learning Tree. Mrs. McGhin was active in the day-to-day operation and financial management of the business until 2008.

Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Robin and Janie McGhin, granddaughter and her husband, Amanda and Alan Sanderson, grandson and his wife, Rob and Crystal McGhin, three great grandchildren, Mary Kate Sanderson, Austin (Bud) Sanderson and Carter McGhin all of Valdosta, her sister, Lillian Peeples Watson of Lakeland, Fla., sisters in law, Miriam McGhin Bullard Butler of Eastman and Laverne McCall Newbern of Jasper, Fla., many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous treasured members of her Learning Tree Family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleon McGhin, brothers, Glenn McCall and Roderick Peeples and sister, Muriel McCall Moore.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ross Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, Florida. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northside Baptist Church, 200 E.
