Kathleen (Kathy) Steffens

Kathleen (Kathy) Steffens, 67, of Valdosta died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born August 24, 1949 in Kansas City, Kansas to the late Roy and Virginia Risebig Chandler. Before moving to Valdosta, Kathy lived in Tifton for 36 years where she worked as a church secretary at Calvary Baptist Church and Brother Charlie Rescue Center. She then worked as a medical receptionist at Family PrimeCare, LLC, for Dr. Richard Pierzchajlo, office manager at Tifton Orthopedic Clinic for Dr. William Hornback, and finally at Tift Regional Medical Center in quality management. Kathy also served as the organist at Peace Lutheran Church in Tifton and sang in the choir at Messiah Lutheran Church in Valdosta, of which she was a member.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Earl; her sons and daughters-in-law, Kyle and Lou Ann of Alpharetta, Georgia, Jason and Jennifer of Nashville, Tennessee, Ryan and Ashley of Sugar Hill, Georgia, and her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Cheryl Chandler of Holt, Missouri.
A "Celebration of Life" service for Kathy will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Messiah Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. A private committal service will take place in advance of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to either the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance at www.ocrfa.org or to Hospice of South Georgia.
