Katherine Hallman Smith

April 20, 1930 — March 14, 2017

Katherine (Kathy) Hallman Smith, 86, of Valdosta passed away at Fellowship Home and left to be with her Lord on March 14, 2017. She was born on April 20, 1930 in Putnam County, Georgia to the late David Fleming and Fanny Lucille Hulsey Hallman. She graduated from Putnam County High School and then North Georgia College. She was attending Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, when she met the love of her life, the late Fred Carl Smith. They were married for 46 years and had five children.
She was a Godly and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a true southern lady who loved to share her gift of hospitality. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Valdosta and later a part of the South Daytona Beach Baptist Church. She served her churches and community in various capacities throughout her life. She was also an avid reader and Bible Scholar who loved to teach.
She is survived by four of her children, Vickie (Fred) Wilkinson, Mary Beth (Neil) Meyers, Andy (Janice) Smith, and Nan (Tim) Dame, all of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Sala (Bill) Love of Valdosta, Thom (Dana) Wilkinson of Ponte Vedra Beach FL, Stephen Meyers of Valdosta, Elizabeth (David) Warrick of Columbus GA, Michael (Cris) Sheffield of Lake Park, Drew Smith of Atlanta, Kahler Smith of Valdosta, Katherine (Rick) Coleman of Atlanta, Benjamin Dame, Joseph Dame, David Dame, Victoria Dame all of Valdosta, and eight great grandchildren; and her siblings, Elizabeth Hopkins, Marjorie Bowers, and Johnny Hallman, also many nieces and nephews and by a special caregiver and friend, Angela Ponder.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Fred C Smith MD; her son, Fred Smith Jr.; a granddaughter, Dana Wilkinson and by six siblings.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel at First Baptist Church on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 2 pm. Funeral services will follow at 3 pm with the Rev. Mac Weaver officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
