Karen Lynne Root, 62, of Valdosta, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Formerly of Middletown, New Jersey, Karen was the daughter of the late Harold Arthur Root and Naomi Jeanne Stevens Root. Karen was dedicated to her parents, ceaselessly caring for them and honoring their memory. Born in Middletown, Ohio, Karen's dreams proved too big for her to stay. Upon earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre at Miami of Ohio University, Karen trained at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. Eventually and inevitably, she moved to New York City. There she would fall in love with the man who became her husband, Steven Savitsky. Literate and creative, Karen's passions included reading and cooking alongside acting and the stage. Like her father she celebrated her heritage, relishing in her Scottish ancestry. Above all she loved her son Matthew. As a mother Karen was unparalled, and she embodied unconditional love. Karen bettered the lives of countless people as she moved across America with her family. Speaking only from her heart, she in turn entered the hearts of all who knew her.
Surviving are her husband of 37 years, Steven Savitsky of Valdosta, her son, Matthew Root Savitsky of New York, New York, and her brother Eric Root.
A memorial service for Karen will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
