Junita "Judy" Dawson, 88, of Valdosta and formerly of Hanahan, South Carolina died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the Fellowship Home. She was born in Alta Vista, Kansas on November 19, 1925 to the late Peter F. and Anna Ehlers Haffener and had lived in Charleston/Hanahan South Carolina area since 1963 before moving to Valdosta in 2009. Mrs. Dawson was a former member of the Highland Park Baptist Church in Hanahan, South Carolina where she taught Children's Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for thirty years. She was currently a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta.
Survivors include two sons, Leo A. Dawson, Jr. of Valdosta, GA, Gary A. Dawson of Niceville, FL, one daughter, Karen Dianne Dawson of Gaithersburg, MD, five grandchildren, Devon Dawson, Caleb Dawson, Cody Dawson, Summer Dawson and Amanda Hammack, one sister, Pat Bailey of Williams, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo A. Dawson, Sr., a daughter in law, Karyl Dawson, two brothers, Clarence Haffener and Glenn Haffener and one sister, Marcella Martz.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. John LaHood officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:30 am until service time at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 10am, Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Carolina Memorial Park in North Charleston, SC. with Rev. Bob Nichols officiating. James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville, SC will be in charge of graveside services. Carson McLane Funeral Home of Valdosta.
