June Harvey Eager

June Harvey Eager, 96, of Valdosta, died at her home on Saturday, November 15, 2014. Born on June 4, 1918, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, June was the daughter of the late Harold Gifford and Ruth Lucille Harvey. She grew up in Atlanta and was a graduate of Agnes Scott College. While attending church in Atlanta, June met her husband to be, Hartman Eager. After their marriage, they soon moved to Valdosta. Holding herself and those around her to a higher standard , she continued her education, receiving a Masters in Education from Valdosta State College. June worked as a librarian at Valdosta State College for nearly 20 years and later in life she volunteered with Head Start, the Soup Kitchen, Helping Hands and The Mailbox Club. An active community volunteer and member of Christ's Fellowship Church, June reached out to make this world a better place. She traveled extensively, including trips to Europe, Korea, Belize, Africa, Australia, China, New Zealand, across America as far as Alaska and Hawaii. June's love of travel was exceeded by her love for her family and her Lord.
Survivors are a son and daughter in law, Hartman (Hoppy) and Mary Wilson Eager of Dahlonega; sister, Virginia Johnston of Canton; granddaughter, Melissa Eager (Richard) Quintana of Taos, New Mexico; grandson, Andrew Hartman (Christy Beth) Eager of Jefferson; great grandchildren, Roman Quintana, Catalina Quintana of Taos, New Mexico, Loralai Eager, Jack Eager of Jefferson; "adopted" son, Xavier Walker of Valdosta and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Christ's Fellowship Church. Reverend Ken Webb will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Christ's Fellowship Church, 417 Connell Rd, Valdosta GA 31602 or to the Mailbox Club, 404 Eager Rd, Valdosta GA 31602.
