June Byrd Rowntree

JUNE BYRD ROWNTREE, 79, of Cecil died Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. She was born on February 11, 1927 in Cecil to the late Charles Franklin and Maude Kennedy Byrd. Mrs. Rowntree was a substitute teacher for the Lowndes County Schools for more than twenty years. She was a member of the Adel United Methodist Church where she was active in the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class, Glad Tidings Circle and the Young at Heart.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Jayne Rowntree Carpin and David Carpin of Atlanta, James T. (Jim), Jr. and Jody Rowntree of Hahira, Joan Rowntree Peacock of Suwanee, GA., Jonathan and Sara Rowntree of Ray City, grandchildren, Ashley Carpin, Katherine Carpin, Jamie Rowntree, Jessica Rowntree, Jana (Brian) Hancock, Joshua Peacock, JoAnna Peacock and John Peacock, her sister in law, Jackie Kirkland of Hahira, brother in law and sister in law, John Hardy and Gwen Rowntree of Hahira. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Turner Rowntree, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Wednesday, April 19, 2006 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Dillard Ensley officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Young at Heart in care of the Adel United Methodist Church, 214 S.
