Julian W. Nichols, 78, of Valdosta, died suddenly on Thursday, October 20, 2005, after a period of declining health. He was born in Brooks County on July 26, 1927 to Vasey and Cleo Nichols. He was a member of the Northside Baptist Church. He worked for the Southern Railroad before his retirement. Mr. Nichols was a devoted family man, and known to his grandchildren and many friends as “Papu”. He greatly enjoyed maintaining and beautifying his yard.
Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Nichols of Valdosta; a daughter and son in law, Phyllis and John Paul Carpenter of Holly Springs, MS; a son and daughter in law, Dennis and Georgia Nichols of Valdosta; grandchildren, Christie Nichols of Dalton, Brett (Suzanne) Nichols of Valdosta, Jennifer (Curt) Huey, and Emily Davis, both of Holly Springs, MS. Also surviving are a great grandson, Andrew Nichols of Valdosta, two sisters, Doris Edmondson, Grants Pass, Or, and Janelda McKinnon, Stockbridge; two brothers, Arlis Nichols of Virginia and Huron (Marilyn) Nichols of Lake Park and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Funeral services for Mr. Nichols will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2005 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. The Reverend Ross Hudson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Ousley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
