Julian B. Lawson, Jr., 82, of Hahira died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born on January 28, 1931 in Hahira to the late Julian B., Sr. and Mary Kathleen McMillan Lawson and lived most of his life in Hahira. As an young adult he was a driving instructor in Miami, Florida and Chicago, Illinois. He returned to Hahira where he was a farmer and a fireman. Mr. Lawson was also co-owner of Farmers Tractor Company and retired from the Georgia Sheriff's Boys Ranch as the farm manager. He served as a Lowndes County Commissioner in the early 1970's and was a Shriner and a 50 year member of the Hahira Masonic Lodge #346. Mr. Lawson was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter and son in law, Kathy and Doug Singletary of Hahira, his son, Rae Lawson of Valdosta, grandchildren, Chris and Saralyn Singletary, Heather and Nick Smith, his beloved great grandchildren, Camden Singletary, Hailyn Singletary, Caroline Smith and Lawson Smith, four sisters and three brothers in law, Betty Jean Lawson of Mt. Airy, NC, Myra and Raymond Phelps of Jacksonville, FL, Paula and Pendleton Little of Valdosta, Harriet and Frank Hodgson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, brothers in law and sisters in law, Buddy and Angie Jones, Buzzy and Bonnie Jones all of Valdosta, Faye and Homer Carter of Athens, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwen Jones Lawson and a brother in law, James Lawson .
Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Saturday, April 27, 2013 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with burial and Masonic Rites to follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Georgia Sheriff's Boys Ranch, Shriners Hospitals for Children or to United Hospice.
