Judy Johnson Strayhorn, 76, of Valdosta, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at her home after a short illness.
She was born October 29, 1935 in Irwinville, a daughter of the late George H. and Gladys E. Dudley Wallace. After graduating from Valdosta State College in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History she substitute taught at Valdosta High School, among her many occupations. Judy was of the Methodist faith, enjoyed raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter, Jacquie Johnson Coker; two sons, Tim and wife Norma Jean Johnson, and Dudley Johnson, all of Valdosta; six grandchildren, Daniel Akins of Villa Rica, Courtney Barrett of Brooklyn, NY, Joshua Barrett, Andrew Johnson, Dalton Johnson, and Heather Johnson, all of Valdosta; two great-grandchildren, Shannon Akins and Timmy Akins of Valdosta; one brother, George H. Wallace, Jr. and wife Darlene of Rome; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Strayhorn; a sister, Betty Register; a son-in-law, Ron Coker; and her former husband, Jack Johnson.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Dr. Ernie Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in her memory to the Susan G.
