Judith Starling Hollis of Hahira, wife of D.K. Hollis, Jr. and daughter of the late Comer Hendry and Dorothy Parrott Starling, died on May 18, 2017. She was a lifetime resident of Hahira. She attended high school at Brenau Academy in Gainesville, Georgia, graduating in 1957. Judy returned to Hahira after high school and enrolled at Valdosta State College. She was in the first ADPi Sorority at VSC and became Miss Pine Cone in 1959. Judy married David King Hollis, Jr. in 1960.
Judy was active in many clubs and civic organizations, including, The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia, NSCDA – GA Valdosta Township, Valdosta Ladies Golf Association, Stone Creek Ladies Golf Association, Valdosta Country Club, Board of Directors for the Citizens Community Bank, the Cabaret Club, Lifetime member of the Hahira Historical Society, the Valdosta Symphony Guild and was a member of Hahira United Methodist Church.
An avid deer hunter, Judy had most recently begun hunting turkey. With a love for gadgets, she "shot" wildlife with her outdoor cameras set in the woods which provided her with photos of deer, panthers and coyotes.
An avid golfer, her most memorable spring outfits always included snazzy golf attire with matching visor. She could be seen around town in her car, Beau in her lap, his head out the window and a golf bag tucked in the back seat. Judy was a strong woman with an independent spirit. She lived life her way and to the fullest passing these traits on to her three children.
Survivors are her husband, David King Hollis, Jr., her children, David King Hollis, III (wife, Karrie), Starling Hollis Waldron (husband, Archie) all of Hahira; grandchildren, Lily Starling Waldron of Dallas, Texas, Alexander Minton Waldron of Athens, Hollis Marie Waldron of Hahira and Miller Starling Hollis of Valdosta; brother in law, Thomas E. (Tony) Owen, Jr.; nieces and nephews, Leslie Starling McCraw of Dallas, Texas, Britt Owen Byrd and Thomas E. (Trey) Owen, III of Milledgeville. She was preceded in death by a son, Comer Todd Hollis and a sister, Lily Starling Owen.
Funeral services will be held at 4pm, Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Hahira United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Davis officiating. A reception and time of visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. A private entombment will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
