Juanita Lacey McRae, 93, of Valdosta died Thursday, July 16, 2015 at her residence in Atlanta. She was born on November 21, 1921 in Morven, GA to the late James Gary Lacey and Esther Lee Simpson Lacey. Mrs. McRae attended Morven public schools and graduated at age 16 from Morven High School in 1938. She graduated from Piedmont College in Demorest, GA. She married Buford W. McRae, Jr. also of Morven in 1942. They lived in various places throughout the southeast but considered Valdosta home. Mrs. McRae was an elementary school teacher for forty years, an avid gardener, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Valdosta.
She is survived by two daughters, Mara McRae and Claire McRae of Atlanta, one son, Morgan Stuart McRae of Atlanta, one sister, Betty Lacey Ellis of Thomasville, cousin, Janet Lee Simpson of Adel, grandchildren, Maxwell McRae, Mackenzie McRae, Emily Logan, Kendall McRae, Julia Logan and Connor McRae, all of Atlanta, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 20, 2015 at eleven a. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Willis officiating. Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from four until six p. m. Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Valdosta Camellia and Garden Center, 2867 Carroll Ulmer Road, Valdosta, GA 31601.
