Joyce Ruis

Joyce Ruis, 77, of Valdosta passed away on Saturday, December 08, 2012 at her son's residence following a lengthy illness. She was born on May 8, 1935 to the late Zack and Genie Fletcher and has been a resident of Valdosta all her life. She was retired from David Shapiro and Company as a bookkeeper and was a member of Swilley Hill Church of God. She was also a member of TOPS, a longtime organizer of the Fletcher family reunions and the Red Hat Society.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Sam Bass and three sons, Tony Guess, Dale Guess and Ricky Ruis all of Valdosta; grandchildren, J.J. Kersey and her husband Paul, Toni Guess, Bree Ruis and Blake Ruis; step-grandchildren, Melanie Burnette and her husband Chuck, Serina Taylor and her husband Nick, and Sarah Shirley; great-grandchildren, Julia Diane Guess and Paul Allen McMurray; step-great-grandchildren, Ashley Moore, Clay Moore, Drew Burnette, and Wesley Burnette, Damarian Moore, Damerra Moore, Erin Taylor, Damiya Moore, Thomas Taylor; sisters, Ava Witherspoon, Genell Wilson, and Gloria Coppedge; a brother, Hulon Fletcher; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John B. Guess and Buzz Orbie Ruis, two brothers, DeWitt Fletcher and Freeman Fletcher, three sisters, Irene Scarborough, Geraldine Giddens, and Jean Lewis, and two granddaughters, Jillian Regan Guess and Linda Diane Guess.

Services for Joyce Ruis will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2012 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. J. Wayne Owens officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
