Joyce Lee Stephens, 84, of Valdosta died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on February 19, 1932 in Blackshear, Georgia to the late Hugh Everitt and Pearl Valenia Peeples Lee and had lived in this area since 1968. Mrs. Stephens was a member of the Pinetta First Baptist Church. She was raised on the family farm in Alma, Georgia and after she married, she and her husband lived in Jacksonville, Florida, Sanford, Florida and Raleigh, North Carolina before retiring in Valdosta. Mrs. Stephens was a devoted wife and mother who loved music, singing, sewing and tending her roses in her garden.
Survivors include her sons and daughters in law, Jerry and Janet Stephens of Palatka, FL, Paul and Jane Stephens of Valdosta; her daughter, Tammy Stephens of Lake Park; four grandchildren, Josh Roth of Decatur, TN, Amie Clonce of Sandy Springs, GA, Tanner Stephens of Palatka, FL, Zach Bradford of Valdosta; one great grandchild, Landon Cornell Roth of Decatur, TN; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Henry Stephens, a sister and six brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 11am, Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Pinetta, Florida with Rev. Murrell Bennett officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Pinetta First Baptist Church, Haiti Mission Fund, P. O. Box 117, Pinetta, Florida 32350-0117.
