Joyce Herrin Coody

Joyce Herrin Coody, 63, of Valdosta died on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Valdosta on August 30, 1946 to the late Edwin Aldean and Gladys Juanell Goodin Herrin and has been a lifelong resident of this area. Joyce attended Lowndes High School and then worked as a hostess at the Bavarian Inn for several years. She then went on to assemble batteries at SAFT, this was followed by working at Valdosta State University in foodservice which she then retired from. Joyce loved going with friends and family to enjoy casino entertainment and gaming activities. She was very loving and devoted to her family whom she loved to travel with when she could.

Survivors include her husband Jimmy Coody, a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Tedd Schuebert of Lake Park; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Evelyn Chivers of Valdosta; grandchildren, Teddy Schuebert & Scott Schuebert both of Lake Park; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Betty Herrin of Donallsonville, Ga. and Eddie and Linda Herrin of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grand daughter, Brooke Ashlee Chivers and a sister, Frances (Pee Wee) Williams.

Services for Joyce Coody will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Phil West officiating. The burial will follow in the Riverview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
