Joyce Donaldson Catoe, 88, lifelong resident of Valdosta, and former resident of Langdale Place and the Presbyterian Home, died on Friday, June 8, 2012 at South Georgia Medical Center, after a period of declining health. Born on August 23, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Pearl Parker Donaldson. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Joyce was a Valdosta High School graduate and a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in the India Harris Sunday School Class. Mrs. Catoe enjoyed traveling and camping in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee with her husband and family.
Survivors are her daughters and a son in law, Joy and Keith Wiggins of Rye, Colorado, Bobbi Watson of Valdosta; sons and daughters in law, Robert Allen, Jr., and Ginny Catoe of Valdosta, David and Mitsi Catoe of Cherryville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Katherine (Charles) Coughlin of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Christopher (Joelle) Wiggins of Pueblo, Colorado, Bonnie (Bruce) Damm of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kelley (Michael) Whitton of Valdosta, Al (Melina) Catoe of Roswell, Robby (Angel) Catoe, Andy Catoe of Valdosta, Crystal Catoe of Cumming, Brent (Melanie) Catoe of Franklin, Tennessee, Andrew Catoe of Athens; great grandchildren, Rosemaree Coughlin, Katey Coughlin, Sophie Wiggins, Corrie Wiggins, Robert Damm, Ryan Damm, Savannah Read, Tristan Read, Ansley Catoe, Ben Catoe, Owen Catoe, Tanner Catoe and Ella Catoe; brothers, Bill Donaldson of Johnson City, Tennessee, Wesley Donaldson of Dublin; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Catoe was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Catoe, Sr., a great grandchild, Colby Read, sisters and brothers in law, Clyde and Ivey Plair, Sr., Mildred and Haskell Cato; son in law, Jerry Watson; sisters in law, Peggy Donaldson and Verna Donaldson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. John McGowan will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:30 until 8:30.
