Joy Hopkins Pierson of Barney passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017 at South GA Medical Center. She was born in Birmingham, AL to the late Cache Whitney Hopkins and Mabel Brown Hopkins. Mrs. Pierson was a retired LPN, a member of Providence United Methodist Church and Red Hat's Bells of Barney. Earlier in her life she was a celloist in the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.
She is survived by her husband, W. H. "Jim" Pierson of Barney, daughter and son in law, Sandra P. and Daniel L. Morrison of Barney, son and daughter in law, Scott Mitchell and Roxanne Pierson and daughter in law, Debbie Pierson of Orlando, grandchildren, Ryan Pierson (Jamie), Seth Pierson (Jen), Waylon Morrison and Carey O'Steen (Jamie), great grandchildren, Camden Pierson, Skyler O'Steen, Lylia Pierson and Van Pierson, her sister, Loretta McIssac and brother, Bill Shanahan. Mrs. Pierson is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Russell W. Pierson, and two grandsons, David L. Morrison and Robert Troy Morrison.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 at two p. m. at Providence United Methodist Church with Reverend Ray Yody officiating. Burial will follow in Hall Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Sunday at the Martin McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.mclanecares.com.
