Joy Ann Voigt, 77, of Valdosta went to be with her Lord Saturday, April 28, 2018 at her home after a brief illness. She was born in Valdosta on August 31, 1940 to the late George G. and Faye Jordan Voigt. Joy was a member of the Redland Baptist Church and retired from Georgia Natural Gas Company. She had previously worked for Bennett Law Firm and Voigt Sheet Metal Company.
Survivors include her sister and brother in law, Gail and Pete McCord of Morven; two brothers and sister in law, Al and Betty Voigt, Kenny Voigt and his fiancé, Beth Giddens all of Valdosta; nieces and nephews, Kristy Voigt Ethridge, Britt and Lori Voigt, all of Valdosta, Greg Voigt of Quitman, Bubba McCord of Morven; special friend, Sylvia Herndon Pitzing of Valdosta; numerous great nieces and great nephews whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a nephew, George Voigt McCord.
Joy had a beautiful and selfless soul and always thought of others first. She loved her family and friends dearly and when her father became ill, she uprooted her life in Savannah to move back home to help care for him until his passing. She then spent the remainder of her time dedicated to faithfully caring for her mother until she passed away in 2008. Joy said as long as she was alive, her mother would never be lonely and she was not thanks to Joy!
Joy suffered a stroke in 2010 and never lost her beautiful smile and continued to live the best life possible. Her beloved caregivers, Janet and Kay were always by her side and greatly appreciated by her family. Joy also looked forward to spending about every day with her brothers dog “Bonnie” whom she claimed as her’s!
Joy always loved spending time with her family and friends and she brought so much JOY to all those who knew her! She had the most loving heart and a strength that amazed us all.
Her family is forever grateful for Hospice of South Georgia and Langdale Hospice House for allowing us to spend her last days comforting her as she had done for some many others! The family is grateful for the many visits from friends that brought a smile to her face, as well as the prayers and thoughts from so many.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Redland Baptist Church with Rev. Jay Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:30pm-2:00pm at Redland Baptist Church.
