Joseph "Joe" C. Dawkins

Joseph (Joe) C. Dawkins, of Valdosta, 65, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on February 25, 1944, in Valdosta, Georgia.

Mr. Dawkins was in the wholesale plumbing supply business for 42 years. Before his retirement February 29, 2008, he and Stewart Young owned and operated Valdosta Winnelson, a wholesale plumbing supply house.

Mr. Dawkins was a faithful member of Francis Lake Baptist Church.

He is survived by Elaine, his high school sweetheart and wife of 43 years; a daughter, Amanda (Chuck) Gordon of Jacksonville, Florida; a son, Randal Joseph Dawkins of Brooklyn, New York; three grandchildren, Chase, Cody and Heather Gordon, all of Jacksonville, FL; stepmother, Almarene Dawkins, brother, Jim (Karen) Dawkins and sister, Julie (Greg) Fielding, all of Valdosta; and several nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey Dawkins and Ruby Dawkins Bailey.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Eldridge Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the funeral home from 6 – 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Francis Lake Baptist Church, 5111 Springwater Drive, Lake Park, Georgia, 31636.
