Joseph “Joe” Belson, 67, of Valdosta, died suddenly on Friday, November 9, 2018, after a period of declining health. Joe was born in New York, New York to the late Joseph & Hazel Belson. The family moved around the US and Europe with the military and eventually to south Florida where he graduated from Riviera Beach High School. There he met the former Susan Ware when she was assigned to help tutor Joe in chemistry. After high school, Joe followed Susan to Mercer University where he studied Chemistry and Psychology. They were married in 1970, and then moved to Augusta after finishing at Mercer so Susan could complete Medical School. The Belsons then moved to central Florida where Joe operated a restaurant and bar named Belson’s Skyport Restaurant & Lounge at the Sanford Airport for several years. It was during this time, in the late 1970’s and early 80’s that Joe became interested in computers and software. In 1988, the Belsons moved to Valdosta for Susan’s work and Joe continued developing computer software from home. In the mid 1990’s, Joe started his business Belson’s pcXchange in Remerton, which he operated for more than 20 years. Joe was always a hard worker, working to support his mother and family growing up, later his wife and son. Most recently, he worked tirelessly to care for his wife in her medical and health challenges. Photography was also a favorite pastime, throughout his life. Early on he developed film in his own dark room and loved taking unique nature, still life and candid photos of family members. For several years, Joe was the editor of a website he designed called The Remerton News which used humor and satire to poke fun at local politics in the tiny town of Remerton, Ga. Joe was known to those closest to him for his honesty, work, and sarcastic sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Dr. Susan W. Belson; his son and daughter in law, Joe(y) & Ashley Belson; and two grandchildren, Adam & Elizabeth Belson, all of Valdosta. Also surviving are two brothers and sisters in law, John & Carrie Liptak of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and Robert & Julie Liptak of Columbia, SC; his mother in law, Frances Syfrett of Okeechobee, FL and several nieces and nephews.
